| France: A woman heads the National Assembly for the first time |
on Tuesday, as Speaker of the National Assembly, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the era of the Fifth Republic.
Provisional Minister for Overseas Territories and Chairman of the Bourbon Palace Legal Committee under the previous legislature, Yael Brown-Live was elected in the second round by a vote of deputies by 242 votes, an absolute majority of the votes cast that were necessary.
Confronting her, Fatiha Kelwa Hatchi (Nupes-PS) got 144 votes, Annie Ginevard (Les Républicains) 60 and Natalie Pasir (Liberties Group, Independents, Abroad, Territories) 16.

Yael Brown Biffe thus became the fifteenth President of the Assembly under the Fifth Republic, succeeding Richard Ferran (LREM), who was defeated in the second round of legislative elections on June 19.
