on Tuesday, as Speaker of the National Assembly, becoming the first woman to hold this position in the era of the Fifth Republic.

Provisional Minister for Overseas Territories and Chairman of the Bourbon Palace Legal Committee under the previous legislature, Yael Brown-Live was elected in the second round by a vote of deputies by 242 votes, an absolute majority of the votes cast that were necessary.

Confronting her, Fatiha Kelwa Hatchi (Nupes-PS) got 144 votes, Annie Ginevard (Les Républicains) 60 and Natalie Pasir (Liberties Group, Independents, Abroad, Territories) 16.

Sebastien Chino withdrew from the National Rally, who was a candidate in the first round, for the second round.

Yael Brown Biffe thus became the fifteenth President of the Assembly under the Fifth Republic, succeeding Richard Ferran (LREM), who was defeated in the second round of legislative elections on June 19.

In her first address from the podium, the 51-year-old elected official said the association "has the face of France" and "the French urge us to work together and dialogue rather than fight".
